Why did you start your blog?
I wanted to share my stories and photos about the crafts and artisans of Michoacán, plus my knowledge about traveling and living in Mexico.
What do you write about in your blog?
I write about Michoacán primarily, with emphasis on the art and culture. I also discuss traveling in Mexico in general, plus recommend places off the beaten track. I love food and drink (tequila) so I have written about that too.
Advice
- Explore small towns and pueblos when you travel-- a very different experience from the big cities (which are also fun);
- to know "real Mexico" go to less touristy destinations, and stay in family run hotels, not American chains or resorts;
- do some research before you go (online is great!) and don't rely on guide books, as often the information is outdated or inaccurate;
- don't believe what you hear in the U.S. press-- for the most part, Mexico is safe to travel and the people are overwhelmingly gentle, friendly and hospitable
- Moving to Mexico? That's a lot more complicated and requires more space.
