Describe Your Photo

Scuba diving at Media Luna is a treat for divers of any level of experience. This photo was taken by Ossiel Martinez as I approached a cave entrance. The fresh water of Media Luna stays around 82 degrees through-out the year.

Where and when was this photo taken?

The photos were taken on February 20, 2010. The first photo was taken by Ossiel Martinez as I approached a cave entrance on the south side of Media Luna. The second photo is a picture of Ossiel’s dive shop that is located along Hwy 70, near Media Luna. Media Luna is located in the state of San Luis Potosi and about six miles west of the city of Rio Verde.

Tips and Tricks

  • When taking underwater photos in Media Luna, a red filter will help with bringing out the colors.
  • The area around Media Luna is great for capturing photos of farmers at work. Be sure to ask for permission.
  • Due to the western mountain range; sunset photos from Media Luna should be planned for at least 1 hour before the normal sunset.
  • Photos taken during the week will show less back-scatter because of fewer swimmers in the lake.

What camera, settings and lens did you use?

Sony DCR-PC120, f/2.8, 1/60 sec.

Olympus Evolt-300, 7/7.1, ISO 100, 1/400

Do you have travel tips for this destination?

* A nice place to stay is at the Hotel Media Luna that is located along highway 70.

* There are many restaurants in Rio Verde. The Cabana is a favorite place to eat and to have a relaxing beer or two.

* Ossiel has all the rental equipment needed to dive. He also has clean air.
