You can expect hot, dry weather through most of Mexico in the month of April, which is perfect weather for the beach, and many Mexican families take advantage of this fact during their Easter break. It's high season for travel, so if you plan to be in Mexico during Holy Week, make hotel reservations well in advance. Here's a glance at some of the most important festivals and events held in Mexico in April:

Daylight Saving Time Begins
April 1, 2012
In Mexico, Daylight Saving Time (called el horario de verano) is observed from the first Sunday of April until the last Sunday in October. Clocks are set forward one hour at 2 am on the first Sunday in April.

Holy Week - Semana Santa
Nationwide, April 1 to 8
In 2012 Easter falls on April 8th. Festivities take place during the week leading up to Easter, but many people have the following week off as well, stretching it out to a two-week holiday. Religious processions and passion plays re-enacting Jesus' crucifixion are commonly held, but for many Mexicans this is a favorite time to hit the beach.

Festival Cultural de San Luis
San Luis Potosí, April 9 to 15
An annual cultural festival featuring performances in all disciplines of the fine arts. Each year various activities are offered in theater, dance, opera, music, exhibitions, workshops and conferences, access to which is free to the public.

International Motorcycle Week
Mazatlan, Sinaloa, April 11 to 15
Over 300,000 bikers and spectators from across the United States and Mexico converge in Mazatlán for this annual event. The magnum event is the Great Parade, a colorful procession of international motorcycle clubs cruising sixteen miles along Mazatlán’s oceanfront malecón promenade. Other events include an extreme acrobatics competition, drag racing events, and nightly concerts and performances by national rock bands.

Festival Palafoxiano
Puebla, Puebla, April 16 to May 5
This festival's goal is to promote Puebla's artistic, architectonic and sociocultural heritage, and commemorates two important dates - April 16th, the date of Puebla’s foundation, and May 5th the Battle of Puebla. This is a multidisciplinary festival that offers a variety of activities such as concerts, gastronomy, theater, conferences and more, with both national and international guest performers.

Feria Nacional de San Marcos
Aguascalientes, April 23 to May 15
This international fair attracts folks of all ages to enjoy bull-fights, concerts, rodeos, art displays, music, dance and other cultural events; and to gamble at the fair's temporary casino.

Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race
Newport Beach, California to Ensenada, Mexico, April 27 to 29
This colorful race has earned the title of the world's largest international yacht race. With more than 20 classes, the race includes a variety of sea-going boats ranging from top ultra-light and maxi-yachts to the non-spinnaker classes. The racing teams compete for the coveted First-to-Finish Honors, the President of the United States Trophy, and the President of Mexico Trophy among many other awards.
