Hacienda Xcanatun (which means "Tall Stone House" in the Mayan language) is an elegantly restored 18th century boutique hotel that was converted from what was once one of the Yucatan's largest sisal plantations. Opened in 2000 after an intensive five year restoration project, Hacienda Xcanatun is one of Mexico's Boutique Hotels. Hacienda Xcanatun is located about 7 miles (12 km) outside of Merida, on the Merida-Progreso highway.

Hacienda Xcanatun Features

The Hacienda Xcanatun's grounds stretch over nine acres of manicured lawns and tropical gardens showcasing local flora. Guest rooms are distributed over three buildings. There are two swimming pools and a full service spa offering holistic Mayan treatments as well as conventional spa treatments such as body polishing, aromatherapy massages, clay or seaweed wraps, facials, manicures and pedicures. The Hacienda Xcanatun is for adults only, as the facilities are not deemed appropriate for children.

Dining at the Hacienda Xcanatun

The restaurant of the Hacienda Xcanatun is called Casa de Piedra. It is located in the estate’s original threshing room. The restaurant features gourmet cuisine in which French techniques combined with local and Caribbean ingredients result in a sophisticated Caribbean-international menu. There is live music in the restaurant from Thursday to Saturday evenings. The Casa de Piedra restaurant closes early on Sundays, at 6 pm, so guests staying at the hotel should make other arrangements for dining on Sunday evenings.
