The Grito - The Call for Independence

The governor, the mayor, and various other VIPS come out onto the balcony of the town hall shortly before 11 pm. The governor leads the call for independence shouting: "Viva nuestra independencia!" The crowd responds: "Viva!" "Viva Hidalgo!" "Viva!" "Vivan los heroes de la independencia!" "Viva!" This continues until the final "Viva Mexico!" When the governor rings the bell and the crowd erupts into shouts, whistles and cheers with a final heartfelt "VIVA!"
