There is no such thing as a quiet drink in the heart of the Hotel Zone, unless you're actually in your hotel. The quality of nightlife on Blvd. Kukulcan runs the gamut from traumatizing to fantastical. There are the usual staples, like Carlos 'n' Charlies, Senor Frogs, and some generic sports bars. Then there are clubs like Coco Bongo, that take entertainment to a completely different level. There really is something for everyone, but since everyone is different, do your research first. Otherwise, you might find yourself at a place like Corona Bar, uncomfortably face to face with a seriously aggressive shot girl carrying an extra loud whistle, who will scream at you for 15 straight minutes until you agree to take a shot with her and then refuse to give you change for your $20.
Many hotels and tour companies sell "nightlife tours" for Cancun, often including transportation and open bars. While this isn't necessary, it's often a much better deal than going to three or four bars in one night without a package. Bars often charge covers and offer open bar specials, and they mark up the price of drinks if you're not going to pay for an open bar. Clubs in Cancun can be extortionately expensive to get into. The Hotel Zone stretches for miles; depending on where you're staying, transportation costs can also add up.
