The week leading up to Easter, known as Holy Week in English or Semana Santa in Spanish, begins on Palm Sunday. On this day you can see elaborately woven palm fronds for sale in the local markets and in front of churches. Throughout the week there are many religious events that take place, but if you're traveling in Mexico during this time, you should expect crowds at tourist attractions and beaches - since most students have two weeks off around Easter, this is a popular time for Mexican families to go on vacation.
