A New Era Dawns

Contrary to popular belief, the ancient Maya never predicted the world would end on December 21, 2012. However, crowds gathered at Maya sites on the day, some to welcome a new era, others to celebrate Maya culture, and many just to see what would happen. I traveled to Chichen Itza to witness the event. I'm not sure what I expected, but the ambiance was much more Summer of Love than Apocalypse. See my photos: Greeting the New Era at Chichen Itza.
