When I was growing up there were certain things that I associated with Christmas: the smell of a natural Christmas tree and cookies baking in the oven, traditional carols, and of course, snow. When I first moved to Mexico I couldn't imagine it ever really feeling like Christmas here, but after a few years I started to make some new associations. Now posadas, piñatas, nacimientos and Mexican Christmas songs like Los Peces en el Rio, and the wonderful aroma of hot fruit ponche navideño mean Christmas to me just as much as pine trees and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
