The Mexican Christmas season kicks off with the first posada on December 16. This is the first of nine consecutive nights of processions and parties leading up to Noche Buena, Christmas Eve. Las Posadas are a Mexican Christmas tradition that involves reenacting Mary and Joseph's search for shelter in Bethlehem. A special song is sung before the participants enter the home of the family hosting the celebration. Here are the lyrics and translation of the Posada Song.
Posadas are a great way of getting into the Christmas spirit. We'll be enjoying breaking piñatas and eating goodies like tamales and drinking atole and ponche!
