Puerto Vallarta's malecón or seaside promenade, has long been one of this beach destination's outstanding features. On a stroll along the malecón, you can enjoy street performers, admire the bronze sculptures that line the walkway, and people watch to your heart's content. The malecón has recently undergone a renovation project which reinforced the retaining wall facing the sea, widened the walkway and added trees, all which enhance the pedestrian experience. The revamped Malecón now offers wifi service, and users can enjoy up to two hours of internet access for free.
The renovation of Puerto Vallarta's malecón has not been without controversy. Some feel that the changes were unnecessary; they preferred it in its original state, and argue that the changes detract from the old town charm of the city. Others appreciate the expanded feel of the space and added shade. Whichever side of the debate you fall on, there's no question that the malecón will continue to be one of Puerto Vallarta's main meeting places. A stroll along the malecón is a must-do activity, and one of our favorite things to do in Puerto Vallarta.
