On a recent trip to the Riviera Maya, I had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Fairmont Mayakoba. This upscale resort is located about five miles north of the hip town of Playa del Carmen on the luxurious and environmentally friendly Mayakoba complex. My traveling companions and I were delighted with our stay at the Fairmont. We loved our accommodations, the delicious food, the resort's lush setting, and also the measures the resort has taken to protect the local environment. This is not an all-inclusive resort, but by taking advantage of the resort's Appetite for Luxury package, all of our meals and drinks were included in our stay.
One of the things I really appreciated when dining at the Fairmont Mayakoba is their Lifestyle Cuisine Plus options at the restaurants. These are special menus for people with different dietary restrictions or preferences. As an ovo-lacto vegetarian, I was thrilled that every time I sat down in one of the Fairmont Mayakoba's restaurants I was greeted by name and offered a vegetarian menu. No explaining to waiters about what I do and don't eat or lengthy questioning about what ingredients are included in particular dishes in order to determine which foods are vegetarian. Some of the great meals I enjoyed were veggie fajitas at the La Laguna Restaurant and cashew-crusted tofu steak at the Las Brisas restaurant. The Fairmont Mayakoba offers Lifestyle Cuisine Plus menus for diabetes, vegan, raw, macrobiotic, heart healthy, and gluten-free diets.
The "Appetite for Luxury" package includes accommodation, unlimited all day meal and beverage service for two adults (tips included), on-property nature walks, bird watching and boat tours. Traveling with the kids? Two children up to 18 stay free (a meal supplement applies for kids aged 6 and up), and three hours per day of kids club activities (for kids aged 4 to 12) is also included.
