The Adventure Travel Trade Association's eighth annual Adventure Travel World Summit is being held this week in Chiapas. This gathering of adventure travel professionals is held in a different destination every year. According to adventuretravelnews.com:

"Chiapas was chosen for the preferred Summit location by ATTA due to its partnership orientation as well as the destination's readiness and willingness to press forward on progressive adventure tourism development. Additionally, Chiapas was identified as having potential benefits to the local tourism economy and the ATTA's members worldwide."

There are dozens of locales in Chiapas that are perfect for practicing adventure tourism. Whether you're interested in hiking, whitewater rafting, camping, spelunking, ziplining or learning about the local culture and enjoying the cuisine, Chiapas has something to offer. Though many associate Chiapas with the Zapatistas uprising that took place there in the 1990s, Chiapas is a safe travel destination and has much to offer: it's truly a destination worth exploring.

Learn more about Chiapas state, its capital San Cristobal de las Casas, and some of its main attractions: the Sumidero Canyon, Palenque archaeological site.
