A paradise for beach lovers and ecotourism enthusiasts lies just south of Cancun along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo. In the Mayan Riviera the sand is powdery white and the sea is of astonishingly varied shades of blue, ranging from light turquoise to deep azure. There are water parks and ecological reserves allowing visitors to explore the world's second largest coral reef and the amazing biodiversity of the region, and the many Mayan archaeological sites make the area culturally interesting as well.
