Dengue Mexico MapRainy season in Mexico brings with it a rise in the number of mosquitoes, and subsequently the diseases they may carry, such as malaria and dengue. Malaria in Mexico is quite rare and is limited to areas infrequently visited by travelers. Dengue fever, on the other hand, may pose more of a concern to visitors to Mexico. Dengue fever, like malaria, is transmitted by mosquitoes, but unlike malaria, dengue infections are often reported from urban settings. Fortunately, dengue is not as serious an illness in malaria, although the more severe form of the disease, known as dengue hemorrhagic fever, may in some cases be deadly.

The map shows risk of transmission of dengue in Mexico. Areas in red constitute a high risk, yellow areas is medium risk, and green, low risk.

For more information about dengue fever, its symptoms and prevention, read Dengue Fever in Mexico, or from the CDC: Dengue Fever Outbreak Notice. Read about dengue fever in other parts of the world: Florida, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Africa.
