Every year in mid-June residents and visitors in San Miguel de Allende celebrate El Día de los Locos, (the Day of the Crazy People). On this day people dress up in silly (and sometimes very elaborate) costumes, parade through the streets and throw candy to spectators, all while dancing to loud music. The parade begins at the Church of San Antonio and winds its way through the streets of San Miguel until reaching the Jardín central, San Miguel's main square. This carnivalesque celebration takes place on the Sunday following the feast day of Saint Anthony of Padua, June 13. Since the Feast Day of Saint Anthony falls on a Sunday this year, the Dia de los Locos will be celebrated on June 13, 2010.

What an interesting celebration, and the costumes Mr. Felton captured are fantastic!
Wow who knew, I think I would prefer the day of the demented to the day of the dead but it’s a hard call
Sukhmandir, It’s interesting that you make the connection with the Day of the Dead because this festival reminds me a lot of the comparsas that are part of Day of the Dead celebrations, at least in Oaxaca. Here’s a photo: Day of the Dead Comparsas
What a great celebration huh? I love the photo it shows that the event was successful.. Thanks for sharing this post! Keep it up!
