5 Reasons to Visit Mexico this Fall

Thursday August 27, 2009
Besides all the usual reasons to travel to Mexico, there are some particular factors that make this fall an especially good time to visit.
  1. Super deals. There are unprecedented deals being offered this season. Hotels, airlines and service providers are slashing prices and offering all kinds of special promotions, including nights free, kids stay for free, upgrades and lots of extras. Check out our list of Mexico travel deals for some leads to spectacular savings on travel to Mexico.

  2. Favorable exchange rate. The weak value of the peso relative to the dollar makes those great deals even better. The peso was at its weakest in years this past March, at 15 pesos to one dollar. It's strengthened since then, the rate is around 13 pesos to a dollar. You'll still find your dollars go much farther than last year when a dollar was worth between 9 and 10 pesos. (Check out this graph that shows the value of the Mexican peso to the US dollar over the past year).

  3. Excellent weather. The weather in Mexico in the fall is particularly fine - rainy season is coming to an end throughout most of the country so you'll get to enjoy the lush, green vegetation but you likely won't have to contend with much rain. This year's hurricane season has been mild so far and although there's no guarantee that a hurricane won't strike your holiday destination, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association lowered its 2009 hurricane season forecast early in August, stating that there is an increased probability of a below-normal hurricane season. 4. Fun holidays and events. You may associate the fall season with going back to school or work after summer vacation, but here in Mexico we're just gearing up for some special celebrations. Mexican Independence is celebrated in September and some of the festivities stretch out over the whole month. Day of the Dead is another important Mexican holiday, and one that offers a unique glimpse into Mexican culture. There are also loads of festivals taking place this fall. Find out more about holidays, festivals and events in September, October and November.

  5. It's low season. In general the fall season in Mexico is less crowded than other times of the year. There are fewer people and that means a more relaxing vacation and more attentive service for you!
