Zocalo Skating Rink
Tuesday November 11, 2008
Mexico City's Zocalo will once again be the site of an enormous ice-skating rink as part of the city's winter events. Preparations have already begun on the world's largest ice skating rink, which will be open to the public from November 29 to January 10. This is the second year in which the city's huge plaza has been converted into a skating rink, just one of Mayor Marcelo Ebrard's innovative ideas to make life in the city more enjoyable (he has also created inner city "beaches" for residents to enjoy during the hot months of the year, and closed streets to traffic on Sundays for cyclists). Organizers are anticipating some four million visitors to the skating rink this season.
