Chorizo Smuggling Attempt Thwarted

Tuesday October 28, 2008
A woman was caught trying to cross the border from Mexico into the United States with chorizo (spicy Mexican sausage) hidden in baby diapers, made to look like soiled diapers. The border patrol was suspicious and investigated the supposedly dirty diapers. They confiscated the chorizo and fined the woman $300. The moral of this story is: enjoy your chorizo in Mexico because you can't take it back with you!

Of course, this woman knew she was bringing a prohibited item into the United States, but if you're unsure about something you'd like to bring back with you from your trip, and you don't know if it's permitted, check out the Custom and Border Protection's list of prohibited and restricted items.
