Tropical Storm Julio Drenches Baja California

Sunday August 24, 2008
The Pacific coast of the Baja Peninsula received strong winds and heavy rains as tropical storm Julio hit land this afternoon, north of the resort area of Los Cabos. The storm is lashing the Baja Peninsula with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph (75 km/h), with higher gusts. The expectation is that Julio will weaken to a tropical depression on Monday.

According to Reuters report, the port in Los Cabos was closed and tourists were recommended to practice caution and stay off the beach, and for the most part, remained in their hotels, whereas residents farther north were encouraged to evacuate.
