Friday June 22, 2007
There are only two weeks left to vote for your favorite New World Wonder - there are 21 candidates and seven sites will be chosen by popular vote. The winners will be announced on July 7th, 2007 (07/07/07) at a ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal. Mexico's candidate is Chichén Itzá, an ancient Mayan site located in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Chichén Itzá is the most well-known and one of the most well-preserved of the Mayan archaeological sites. Its stunning architecture and astronomical alignments are good evidence of the advances of ancient Mayan civilization.
