18,000 Go Nude in Mexico City's Zocalo
Tuesday May 8, 2007
Photographer Spencer Tunick's photo shoot in Mexico City drew a huge crowd of over 18,000 people who bared it all for his latest installation. As predicted, Tunick was not given permission to photograph in the archaeological site of Teotihuacan. He instead chose to pose his models in Mexico City's historical main square, the Zocalo. The huge crowd of Mexico City dwellers of all ages gathered in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, left their clothes around the edges of the square and lined up in the center, surrounding the flagpole, which, for this occasion, was flagless. In Mexico City, Tunick surpassed by far his previous record of 7,000 people who gathered for a nude photo shoot in Barcelona in 2003.
