Passport Needed for Air Travel to Mexico in 2007
Sunday November 12, 2006
U.S. citizens traveling by air to Mexico in 2007 will need a passport to return to the United States. It usually takes six weeks for a passport application to be processed, but it can take longer, so you're better off applying well in advance. This new requirement is part of the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative and comes into effect on January 8th, 2007. Those traveling to Mexico by land or sea can travel without a passport until 2008, but will need to present two forms of official identification, preferably a birth certificate and driver's license.
Find out how to apply for a passport from the U.S. Department of State.
