Mexico Travel Safety

Wednesday September 20, 2006
Safety is always an issue for travelers, but with the U.S. State Department's recent Public Announcement concerning travel in Mexico, people planning a Mexican vacation may be particularly concerned about safety during their trip. The most recent area of concern is the border town of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, but the announcement states that there has been violence in other areas as well. Official recommendations urge travelers to stay on main roads, travel during the day and stay in well-known tourist areas.

Millions of tourists visit Mexico every year and the great majority have a pleasant and safe vacation. You don't have to cancel your plans or travel in fear: you can significantly reduce your risk of being a victim of crime by following a few general safety precautions.
