The Mayan Riviera

Friday August 18, 2006
A paradise for beach lovers and ecotourism enthusiasts lies just south of Cancun along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo. The sand is powdery white and the sea is of astonishingly varied shades of blue, ranging from light turquoise to deep azure. There are several water parks and ecological reserves allowing visitors to explore the world's second largest coral reef and the amazing biodiversity of the region, and the many Mayan archaeological sites make the area culturally interesting as well.

The Mayan Riviera was hit by Hurricane Wilma in October last year but renovation works have restored the area and the vast majority of tourist amenities are functioning, some improved over pre-hurricane conditions.

It is such a magnificent place. The water is like crystal blue. Just perfect to spend your whole life in that paradise.
